What car company has the most disappointing lineup right now?

For me, it’s Nissan. Chrysler (actual Chrysler) probably has a worse lineup overall, but I’m not disappointed in them because Chrysler has never had a decent lineup.

The Juke is cool, but needs a refresh. The Maxima and Murano are probably fine, but everything else is ancient junk. It hurts to call the 370Z junk, but that car in no way competes with a Mustang anymore.

Here are my requests from Nissan:

Sub-$40k 2-door hyper attention-grabbing electric car with updated Leaf drive-train

Nissan 250Z, a BR-Z competitor with a high-revving 2.5L and an optional turbo. 2-doors, 2 seats, RWD, LSD standard, and for the love of god make it light weight.

Share the 2.5L engine options with the refreshed Juke which will obviously be aimed at the WRX/FoST/GTI, but AWD standard and way the hell weirder.

Some crossover that makes money, I guess

The Maxima and Murano are still Altimas.

Are they still almost a decade old on the inside? I thought they were fairly thouroughly refreshed, but I’ll admit to basing that entirely on the floating roof thing and not on any research whatsoever.

I know they refreshed the interiors and some of the body panels, but they’re still decade-old Altimas underneath.

I’d rather see a 250SX. RWD, lightweight, 2+2 seater with high-revving ~200hp 4 cylinder (or perhaps the 1.6t from the Juke) and priced around 25-30k.

The Altima and Rogue sell like crazy. That crossover is making money for them. The Altima is... ok, as far as mid-size sedans go. I’ve driven many of them and while they’re not great, they’re inoffensive enough to appeal to a large part of the market.

Mitsubishi wins this by a country mile. Two crappy little SUVs, a 10-year old Lancer, and low-rent compacts. No good.

Considering they recently said that the IDX won’t happen because there is no platform for it, I’d be surprised to see a new small RWD coupe come from them... I even just looked up the news from when they announced that it was dead and the Nissan person said they just didn’t think the Z platform was right for a smaller power train. Why? I don’t know...

Nissan has never impressed me with anything they make. I am only slightly impressed by Infinity until I remember to compare it to Lexus/Mercedes/Audi etc. Everything they make feels heavy, and not in a good way.

Datsun was cool though.

Exactly. Small but taller, like a mini pony car with better visibility. Speaking of 1M in your name, the 1 series fits the bill pretty fantastically, and someday I really wouldn’t mind one.

I mean the Lancer was decent once upon a time, but it’s still a 9 year old design now. The rest are just worthless. They need a new Eclipse and an updated Lancer, as well as a better SUV/CUV to become relevant again.

Had a G35 coupe and it did feel very heavy. It also never broke for the 50,000 miles I owned it. As in, not a single thing other than the key fob. I don’t think Infiniti ever competed with BMW/Mercedes/Audi, but they certainly held their own against Acura and Lexus. Now that everything they make starts with “Q” I have no idea what they sell, though.

Kinja'd!!! MUSASHI66 > Bryan doesn't drive a 1M
10/31/2016 at 13:31

Kinja'd!!!0

They have the new Titan, the new Armada, very recent Rogue, recent Murano.

They have competitive Sentra, Altima and Maxima - far from great or exciting, but they still sell a lot.

Juke is old, but it is so weird, it really doesn’t have a competitor.

Quest is the only thing they have that is horrible, bur minivans don;t sell anyway.

So, the only vehicles that sell these days - trucks, SUVs and CUVs - they have it covered.

Kinja'd!!! MUSASHI66 > Bryan doesn't drive a 1M

Kinja'd!!!0

Obvious answer is obvious - FIAT.

FIAT 500 is a 9 year old design, and recent changes are too small to make a difference.

FIAT 500L is an atrocity. No other way of saying it.

FIAT 500X is fairly decent small car, but they can’t sell them. Jeep version is selling way better, despite the fact that they are the same car underneath.

FIAT 124 is great, but too little too late.

Hyundai. I work at a multiline dealer and one of the lines is Hyundai. All their cars bore me. They are either too much money and too complicated for their own good or so cheap and under built that they completely miss our on a sweet middle ground. Don’t get me started on how much their styling looks like a computer compiled popular designs from 5 years ago and then decides they a little trim flare would make it work today. The only thing that might be decent in the new “coupe” thing coming out, but I bet that’ll be too expensive for all the cheapness inside.

As I watch the car industry change, my 135i becomes more and more dear to me. Small, RWD, straight-six, manual, good visibility, hydraulic steering, no infotainment screen, no “sport/comfort/eco modes,” no engine sound through the speakers, and you get the idea.

I like the looks of the Veloster, buy there’s not a single other Hyundai I like looking at.

I find it hard to be disappointed by Hyundai, though, because of what their offerings were 10 years ago.

I’ve had a bit of driver’s seat time in a couple of G35s. They are okay. Yeah, maybe they aren’t trying to compete. But their sedan starts at 34, mercedes starts at 40, and lexus starts at 38. So it seems like they are trying to be “budget luxury”. I think, for the most part, they are close enough. But when you factor in depreciation I wonder if it still really makes sense or not. I bet it’s pretty close.

At any rate, I don’t mean to talk poop about your car. I wouldn’t hate owning a G35.

I don’t hate the rear, but the front might as well be a small PT cruiser. They still sell about 60k of them a year which seems impressive to me.

No, because the 1 series is a very pretty coupe. The other two you might have caught hipster eyes. It is a syndrome where you find certain things good, when they aren’t, due to their “oddness/terribleness”

It’s not Nissan. I’m not a fan of Nissan at the moment, but Mitusbishi’s line up is completely shit. At least Nissan still make 2 sports cars! Say what you will about the 370Z and GT-R, they eat most manufacturer’s sporty line-up for breakfast. The Juke is funky, too. The rest of the models are a bit sad, but at least all of them aren’t sad.

Ps. In what world is a 2.5L Nissan a Z? It’s an SX, mate!
